Madhepura Town
About Madhepura Town
Madhepura is the district headquarters of Madhepura district in Bihar, located approximately 45 km from Simrahi. The town serves as the administrative, educational and commercial centre for the district and plays a significant role in the governance and development of the Koshi region. Madhepura is well connected by road via NH 107 and has a railway station on the Saharsa–Purnia line.
The town is notably home to the Modern Coach Factory (MCF), a rail coach manufacturing facility established by Indian Railways. The MCF is one of the most significant industrial establishments in the Koshi region, producing modern railway coaches for the Indian rail network. This facility has brought employment and economic development to the area and has put Madhepura on the national industrial map.
Madhepura is also famous for the nearby Singheshwar Sthan, one of the oldest and most revered Shiva temples in the Mithila region. The temple, located a short distance from the town, attracts devotees from across Bihar and Nepal, especially during Shivratri and the holy month of Shravan. The town has key facilities including government offices, Madhepura district court, hospitals, and educational institutions — including colleges affiliated with B.N. Mandal University.
The town is part of the historic Mithila region and has deep cultural significance in the Maithili-speaking belt. From Pushkar Guest House in Simrahi, Madhepura is accessible via NH 107 with a drive time of approximately one hour.
